Vote For Kara Wong

My Bio

Every morning, we send our children to school, trusting that the adults responsible for our schools are giving them the education and opportunities they need to succeed. That’s a responsibility we should take seriously and one we should expect our school district to meet.

My name is Kara Wong, and I’m running for a seat on the CVUSD school board because, as a parent and longtime school volunteer, I’ve seen enough to believe our District can do better, and that our students deserve better.

I’m not a career politician, and I have no aspirations to become one. I’m a parent who has spent over 10 years watching, listening, and participating in our schools. Like many parents, I trusted our elected Board members to recognize the problems in our District and to take action to address them.

But I’ve reached a point where trust alone isn’t enough.

Our current Board needs more effective leadership. Our students deserve a better education. I’m invested in our students, our families, and the future of our schools—and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves to make a difference.

My Key Issues

Academic Excellence

I’ll keep expectations high while giving students the support they need to meet them. That means increasing the percentage of students meeting or exceeding grade-level standards, expanding access to AP and Honors classes and dual enrollment, creating new options like AP Music Theory, and strengthening AI and data literacy. I’ll also advocate for improved academic pathways and use of college and career planning tools to assess readiness and identify gaps early enabling every student to make fully informed decisions about their future.

Safe Schools

I’ll back practical and proactive emergency planning, bullying-prevention, traffic-safety, mental-health and basic-needs support. I’ll open channels for collaboration and problem-solving with students, staff, families, and neighbors. The goal is simple: everyone should feel safe and connected.

Quality Teaching

I’ll work to attract, keep, and grow exceptional teachers by focusing on competitive compensation, supportive working conditions, strong school leadership, and meaningful professional growth. And I’ll bring community mentors into classrooms, so students learn from people with real-world experience.

Effective Leadership

I’ll use data and disciplined oversight to make decisions more transparent and cut unnecessary spending. I’ll focus first on the repairs that can’t wait and on projects that prioritize students. I’ll make sure the Board hears from diverse voices from across the community.
